Cleanliness may be next to godliness, but what if the process slowly kills you? The products we apply to our bodies on a daily basis contain hundreds of chemicals. A 2004 survey found that an average person in the United States uses nine different personal care products every day—introducing about 126 different chemicals into their body. Applying products such as lotions, deodorants, moisturizers, fragrances, lipstick, and shampoos is really the same thing as ingesting these products through your skin. They are carried to your bloodstream even though they do not go through the digestive system. A certain way to expose yourself to hundreds of toxins over your lifetime is to use mainstream personal care products. Many of the chemicals in personal care products are synthetic petrochemicals. They serve as solvents, plasticizers, preservatives, antimicrobials, dyes, and bonding agents. Because they are not natural, the body has no designated pathway for their elimination....
